Surviving High School is tough and exam season can make it even more stressful. There’s no getting away from it. Even the most laid-back of students will find themselves frantically paging through textbooks ahead of the big day. So, how do you get through exam season relatively unscathed, with your sanity intact and with a full-house of incredible marks? We’ve got some exam preparation tips for you right here.

It’s All About Preparation

While spending hours scrolling through social media undoubtedly sounds a lot more exciting than revising your work weeks ahead of the exams, it pays to start as early as possible. Exam season is pretty much already upon us, so if you haven’t already started preparing, now’s the time to do so!

Plan Your Time Well

Research has shown that study sessions that go on for hours at a time definitely aren’t doing you any favours. So, how long should you study for? Well, the average student can only focus properly for a maximum of 45 minutes at a time. Study any longer than that per session and you won’t be retaining information at the same level. Stagger each session with 10 – 15 minute breaks in between instead.

Stay Away from Distractions

Study in a room that doesn’t have a TV inside it or you will find yourself reaching for the remote before you know it. You’ll also definitely want to leave your cell phone in another room, too. The secret to a successful study session? Get rid of distractions before they become distractions!

Test Yourself

What is the easiest way to find out how much more you need to revise? Create a test for yourself! If you do well, not only will you have peace of mind that you’re ready to tackle the exam, you’ll also be filled with positivity and confidence which can go a long way towards improving your marks.

Other than that, take care of yourself! Proper nutrition (think brain food like avocado and refreshing pomegranate, for example) and good hydration are key to sitting your exams without a hitch. Remember to take a bottle of water into the exam room with you. We all know how hot and uncomfortable our summers can be.

Best of luck – you’ve got this!
