Selling your skills? How is that a business?? If those are the thoughts in your head right now, you are normal! It looks weird when you read it on the screen, but the idea of’ selling your skills’ is the way a lot of small businesses make their money, and we’re about to show you how!
First of all, let’s understand what we mean by skills. Say you are really good at something, like maths or bodybuilding, like singing or dancing. Did you ever think that someone else would pay you to teach them? Maybe you really have a talent for art, or are good at getting things done quickly and efficiently – these are all skills that other people may not have, and if they don’t have them they’ll need them!
So, how do you find out what your skills are, and how do you turn them into a successful business? First of all, if you don’t know what you’re good at here is a quick way to find out – ask yourself what you enjoy doing the most. You may not realise it, but the things you enjoy the most are the things you do the most – and by doing them so much you’re probably good at them! It could be something simple like drawing pictures, or maybe you are crazy about music or poetry or just about anything. Find your passion, and you’ll realise you have some awesome skills. If you’re still not sure, ask friends and family what you are really good at!
Once you know what you do really well, ask yourself how that skill can help someone else out. If art is your skill, why not create birthday and holiday cards or draw portraits of people for a fee? If you are good at getting things done, you can offer to run errands for neighbours. If you can sing, dance or play an instrument you can start entertaining people at parties, or start teaching people who want to learn!
The great thing about selling your skills is that you don’t need much money at all to start your business, so you’ll be making a profit in no time!
