It’s holiday time but the festive season is a little different this year thanks to Coronavirus. With social distancing, and now a revert to stricter SA lockdown rules, you may be feeling like your holidays have been totally ruined!

Not so – you can still enjoy Christmas and New Year even though you won’t be experiencing the holidays in the same way that you usually do.

Here’s why things actually aren’t so bad, and how you can make the most out of December 2020!

Tips for surviving the festive season lockdown

1. Look for the silver lining

In every tough situation, there’s always something to be grateful for. Social distancing during the holidays means that you’ll spend less money going out, you’ll spend more time connecting with family, and everyone will generally be less busy and stressed. Read all about how you can turn catastrophe into opportunity in our latest newsletter here.

2. You can start new traditions

Feeling sad about New Year’s Eve now that you can’t go to a huge party and you have to be home before midnight? Start a new tradition, like games night at home with family, or a (small and socially distanced) gathering of close friends. End the evening early, and enjoy the fact that you won’t wake up tired and hungover the next day!

3. Learn a new skill

This festive season, you’ll have a lot more time on your hands. Instead of binging Netflix and playing Xbox, use your time wisely to develop a new skill. There are many short courses available online where you can learn everything from crafts to digital design – and here at Teen Entrepreneur, we’re offering our own courses for free! Sign up for our digital academy and learn the basics of entrepreneurship, and then put your knowledge to good use by starting your own December holiday side hustle.

As frustrating as it is feeling ‘stuck at home’ with nothing to do during the festive season, it’s important to change your perspective and try to fill up your time with safe holiday activities. You can and will have a great holiday – and remember, we’re all in this together!
